Castelmola is located on the mountain peak overlooking the Ionian Sea and a few kilometers from Taormina. On Piazza Sant’Antonino there is a belvedere that offers a splendid view of the Ionian coast and the city of Taormina, the sea and the Calabrian coast.
The origins of Castelmola date back to the pre-Hellenic period. Due to its elevated position, Castelmola was probably once the true acropolis of Taormina.
